Fitness PE
This is a semester course for freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors that will combine the principles of good health, fitness and nutrition to help our students succeed in all aspects of life including physical, mental, emotional and social.
The course will include determining and improving fitness levels combined with the components of strength, endurance, flexibility and cardiovascular education; an understanding of the basic principles of anatomy, kinesiology, exercise physiology and sports injuries; and, health issues including nutrition, current fads and diets, sports nutrition and fitness issues.
The purpose of the course is to provide students with opportunities to develop an individual optimal level of physical fitness, acquire knowledge of physical fitness concepts, and understand the significance of lifestyle on one's health and fitness.
Grading:
5 points: Full participation, outstanding effort
4 points: Full participation, average effort, Not properly dressed
3 points: Failure to Completely participate in an Aspect in a class
2 points: Failure to Completely participate in several aspects of class
1 points: Student dressed but did not completely participate in any class activity
Students can lose points for the following reasons:
Poor Attitude
Poor Effort in an Activity
Failure to Comply with class directions
Failure to Make up excused absences
Disrespect towards staff or peers
Improperly dressed/not wearing a New Berlin PE shirt
I am a strong believer in incorporating literacy in the physical education setting. There are many studies that show incorporation of literacy in the physical education setting will increase standardized test scores. Literacy has been incorporated into my physical education classes through the use of fitness logs and journal writes.
